Gorčević – Šarec: Reform Momentum and Political Stability Key to Montenegro’s European Path

With the preservation of political stability and the joint efforts of all stakeholders, Montenegro can successfully continue fulfilling its European obligations and achieve its European perspective within the planned timeframe, was the message from the meeting between the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević, and the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec.

During the constructive dialogue, Montenegro’s priorities in the negotiation process were discussed, highlighting reforms and stability as key elements for success.

Minister Gorčević reminded of the Government of Montenegro’s strong commitment to completing the negotiation process by 2026.

“The Government has fully directed its administrative capacities toward this goal, and we believe the plan is achievable with the joint effort of all political entities,” emphasized the Minister.

She stressed the importance of joint action, calling on the opposition to constructively participate in the process. “The European project is not the responsibility of the Government alone, but of all of us who want a European future for Montenegro,” Gorčević stated.

Šarec acknowledged the significant efforts Montenegro has made in the European integration process.

“Maintaining the reform momentum and political stability must be a priority in the coming period. It is essential to set aside identity issues and focus on the shared goal – European integration,” Šarec said.

He called on all political actors, from both the government and opposition, to work on preserving unity to efficiently meet the obligations of the European agenda.

The quality of cooperation with the European Commission, which contributes to the dynamic process of closing negotiation chapters, was also emphasized.
